Another stab at the ZB AiO
Posted by Nox13last (Twilight Lord) at Oct 7 2009, 10:26 PM. 18 comments
I remember taking this to an Instant Message committee and having it essentially shot down before it took off, but I want to modify the idea a little.
Outside of Meta or IC functionality, the Zetaboards All-in-One still has a good amount of function, and for the most part, is non-obtrusive and stays out of the way (for the most part). I'd like to take another stab at this, but open it up to a wider audience. I will poll it as I normally do with major board decisions (pick more than one result). I'm first going to explain about it to those who haven't heard of it before.
The All-in-One is an applet which intergrates directly into the forum. It provides additional eatures such as money (and a bank system, shop system, and donation system), reputation, forum leaderboard statistics (who posts more, who earns more, etc), and it assists admins in their administration (we don't have to go through the tedium of the ACP).
With this proposal, I have an additional condition, read below.
I propose a challenge for those who are skilled with CAD tools (such as Adobe Photoshop, Paint.NET, Flash, what-have-you).
While we ourselves haven't utilised the ZB AiO applet yet, I am proposing a challenge in regards to it. An advert banner.
One of the features of the ZB AiO is a network of adverts to similar boards that appear at the bottom of each forum (just below where the CBox is, in fact).
Anyone who wishes to make a banner who wins the commission would get to see it in any board that utilises the ZB AiO applet with adverts set to broadcast globally.
The lucky winner will also win a prize (In Context or In Meta) of their choice (appropriately).
The advert is to portray the board (similar to the banner), and should be of 600x70 pixels.
When you think about this, this would help the forum gain members, as it uses a specialised system.
So, there you have it. This system exists to add a bit of flavour to the board. You don't NEED to use it (you can safely ignore it), and the admins can turn some or all of the features off as necessary, which is the reason this poll was made.
So, questionnaire time! Pick as many or as few options as you favour them. Else, pick NONE. If NONE wins the majority (that counts posts as well as votes), then the motion will be vetoed and maybe put forward at a later date.

Ok. I'll cut to the case, because I don't like frills and dancing around the issue.
I'm thinking of bumping this forum up to Zetaboards Premium. As aside from us getting awesome goodies for it, we would also get an intergrated shoutbox, one which you won't need to register to because it uses the login credentials of this site.
The bad news is we'll need to get rid of the Cbox. Bummer Majorés.
For me (don't forget, I'm still spending for this place out of my own back pocket), it'll cost roughly £5 a month (that's $7.99 a month exactly). I could give up the fee the Cbox is holding on me, and drop the PayPal Donate button at the bottom (unless some of you want to help out, wink wink).
Here's extra info on the shoutbox, if only Brandon wasn't such a secretive dork, we'd know what we were paying for: http://if.invisionfree.com/topic/5061960/
And here's what appears to be the Premium page: http://if.invisionfree.com/topic/5030619/1/
And Here's how you can help us get Premium!

Re: Gummi System

Obviously people will use gummi ships to travel between worlds. It is with that knowledge that I believe that members should receive a basic gummi when they are in their starting place, Traverse or Twilight Town.
A gummi ship consists of five basic elements.
Cockpit- The main protection for the pilot and their passengers.
Wings- The navigational parts, without these, the ship will crash land into the nearest world.
Engine- The part that enables the ship to move and fly.
Weapons- The offensive parts of the ship. The types are Projectile, Lock On, Slash, Impact, and Shield.
Bonus- Any part that can add special abilities to the ship.
All member's ships can be logged in the Gummi Garage and will be required to go there to customise their ship with parts found along their travels. Also there, members can purchase a Teeny Ship that hovers around the main ship as an extra weapon or can take hits. Blueprints can be found containing data on special ships that once built, have a special ability. Furthermore, blueprint ships can be upgraded with use and will gain extra abilities if certain criteria is met.
So any questions, complaints, and concerns?

I'm pleased to announce the three-quarters-renervation of Beyond the Door.
Things done:
Things to do:
Well? What the hell are you waiting for?
Things done:
- 'No Post' forums are gone. They have been hidden, obscured from view. Not ALL of the 'No Post' forums are gone, just the ones whose entire category was barren. This means that if you're in a particular world and wish to move to a different area, then the option is still available.
- INCLUDING the 'No Post' forums, the complete World list has been condensed as and of itself. They are partitioned more logically so that, when they DO reveal, they won't take as much space as they used to.
- The Rulebook has been simplified. It retains it's capacity to be built and upgraded upon, but it should now be in a very easy-to-comprehend format. Useless information and trivial knick-knacks are gone. This wastes a lot of my previous efforts, but that of itself will (hopefully) reap rewards.
- The affiliates have been sorted out. Dead or now-non-existent affiliates have been sluffed from the list.
- The link to the Portal has been changed. It's one of the more trivial changes, but I can't determine why it wasn't done sooner.
Things to do:
- I have finally figured out how to get the Transparency feature in the banners to go away. If you're on the Default or Alaudine skins, then it won't concern you, but some pixels were transparent, revealling the black background behind it, which makes it look very dirty and tacky.
- The red motif banner (KH2 Sora and KH2 Riku fighting back to back) will be cleaned or scrapped, depending on how easy it is to do the former.
- New banners to come. If you want to see a particular design, then ask in the Suggestion forum. New images are put into a rotator, and one is randomly picked to load every page click.
Well? What the hell are you waiting for?

Ok, considering that the memberbase is gaining steam. I thought I might compile a list of things that need to happen before the storyline kicks off.
As soon as this list is fulfilled, progress may happen. This thread will remain open until the storyline opens.
*If/When the chosen of the first two options have taken their course (and the game has been completed), the third option will come into play. Vice versa, the 'Unfixed Rails' may come into play (to a certain extent) during the course of 'Full Improvisation'.
- People to take the places of major characters. If nobody vouches, I'll take Sora and/or Riku.
- A sustainable memberbase of 20+ members.
- A decision (Included in poll).*

Woohoo, we're getting somewhere! I have successfully (re)uploaded all the forum markers which will be seen. So we have proper, attractive forum markers, in the forum, instead of the bog-standard "IFB" ones for the forum itself and the ugly, bulky ones that I put in the boards.
They are of the memory cards Sora held in Chain of Memories (God bless meta-detail! ). Personally, I'm quite happy with the way things are developing, and it'll make things easier on the eyes.
#Edit: I have also worked on the Board Stats. Instead of the generic MSN-esque icons and the plain birthday cake icon, we have character-based icons The progress is pleasing.

So the number of affiliations we have is shooting up in a favourable manner. And after watching the "Last Click" system for 24 hours (it's a project), I am astounded with the amount of Guests we get. And I am crestfallen by the amount that do nothing (damned bots). If you're a human, and do nothing... for God's sake, DO SOMETHING!
As soon as the Board Directory back at RPG-Directory.com opens up, we'll be an official part of it, assuming nothing goes wrong, which should help the site in more ways than one.
In other news, I think the icons for new posts, no new posts, polls, locks, etc is too chunky, so I'll change them as soon as I get access to Photoshop. Whoo.
Peace out.

Shops

Yeah. So, I've actually been able to pull my finger out and get to work on the shops, seeing as I'm at school and half the stuff worth going to that I go to is blocked.
Websense sucks...
Expect to see moogles placed in strategic areas.
You can get more advanced items depending on which moogle you talk to. Their vending level (the advancement of items) is dependent on the asterisks placed in the topic description.

Job Applications
Posted by Nox13last (Twilight Lord) at Feb 14 2008, 01:50 PM. 0 comments
Ok, there are several jobs up for grabs. They consist of:
- Iconists (Creating the New Topic flag, New Poll Flag, etc...)
- Forum Artists (Creating the Main Banner image, Category images, etc...)
- Spriters (Creating Character minipics, similar to this one:
) - Signaturers & Avatarists (Creating requested signatures and avatars)
- Coders (Writing Codes and CSS sheets)
- NPC Controllers (Picking an NPC in the NPC directory and controlling them as per to the storyline).
- Moderator (Will NOT be officially up for grabs, but if I have enough reason to believe that you are sensible and trustworthy)

Ok, everything you see here was done with my bare (and now raw) hands. This is only the bare bones of the board, and I'm not even sure I've set it all up correctly.
Right, because God only knows that I can't maintain this thing myself, I am now assigning up-for-grabs jobs.
Please respond here if you see anything wrong with the board. The things I'm having in mind here consist of:
